How I Created a $1000K Brand Ad from a Screenshot Using AI Tools

If you want to create commercial shoots using AI from simple or complex clothing images, this post will walk you through how to do it step by step. I’ll share how I turned a few pictures of a complex dress into stunning commercial style images and videos using ChatGPT, Midjourney, and some smart prompt engineering. You’ll see how AI can help you cut costs, boost your business, or even make money as a freelancer selling AI services.

Choosing and Preparing Dress Images for AI Commercial Shoots

I started with the Lama website, a popular source for trending fashion dresses. Initially, I thought about picking something simple like a plain T-shirt because it’s easier to create editorial images. But since I love a challenge, I chose a more complex dress instead  one with detailed design elements and multiple layers.

To work effectively with AI for this kind of project, having multiple high resolution images from different angles helps a lot. It lets the AI understand the product better. If you only have one image, you can still get decent results, but multiple views give you the edge.

The key to working with AI models for generating images, videos, or text is proper prompt engineering. These models work on probability and predictions. So, the better your input, the better the AI’s guess will be. That means you have to understand the product fully with all details such as:

  • Fit and shape
  • Sleeve style and length
  • Fabric type and texture
  • Color and pattern
  • Any special design elements

Instead of writing all these details from scratch, I used a golden trick: I copied the exact dress description from the Lama website and pasted it into ChatGPT. Then I asked ChatGPT to convert that description into a detailed image prompt, considering every small feature.

After this, I uploaded the dress images into ChatGPT for context. This helped the AI generate a prompt that accurately matched the dress details. I copied that prompt and used it to create images.

Next, I tested the same prompt in Midjourney. I also used its Omni Reference feature by uploading one dress image so it could generate similar images with better accuracy. I set the strength to 175, chose an aspect ratio of 16:9 (for YouTube video use), and left other settings as default.

Running this prompt through both ChatGPT and Midjourney gave me a chance to compare their results side by side.

Comparing ChatGPT and Midjourney for Dress Images

ChatGPT’s image generator captured the dress’s small design elements very accurately — it got a lot of details right. Midjourney gave me four variations, but none matched the design 100%. The images were similar, but details weren’t exact.

Both tools are paid, costing about $20 a month each. While some may hesitate at the subscription fee, remember that using these tools can save you thousands in marketing or let you earn much more as a freelancer. If you’re looking for free AI image tools, I plan to cover those in upcoming videos.

Designing the Commercial Shoot: Scene, Props, and Style

Creating dress images is just the start. Next comes defining the aesthetic for the commercial shoot the elements that bring the image to life.

Important things to consider include:

  • Props: What will be inside the frame (e.g., horses, flowers)?
  • Studio or outdoor setup: Where is the shoot happening?
  • Lighting: What kind of light mood do you want?
  • Background: Simple or natural landscapes, urban, studio?
  • Style: Minimalist, editorial, magazine, airbrushed?
  • Effects: Such as light flares or color filters

I wanted an outdoor landscape scene for this commercial image. So I searched on Google for the best countries for outdoor fashion photography and landed on Iceland, which I personally like a lot.

The story for the shoot was set near an Icelandic river with a brown horse standing beside it, drinking water. The model would wear the navy blue floral dress, posing elegantly amid flowing water and mountains. I leaned toward an editorial, magazine style look with minimalist airbrush effects  something in the style of Gucci.

I combined all these ideas with the original dress prompt and scene description into one detailed prompt. Then I pasted this into both ChatGPT and Midjourney to see what images they’d generate.

Results and Variations

ChatGPT gave me images with slightly better design accuracy, while Midjourney offered more realistic and tasteful pictures. Changing backgrounds, model poses, and props like adding blue flowers or peacocks made each image unique.

One important tip is to generate many variations so you can pick what looks best. If you want ready-to-use prompts, I’ve shared a free cinematic prompts PDF that you can download and try.

Creating the Commercial Shoot Video with AI

Building on the images, I moved on to making a video. For video, you need a detailed prompt covering:

  • Scene (Icelandic river, mountains)
  • Model pose (head tilted sideways)
  • Props (brown horse drinking water)
  • Camera movement (slow zooming out)

I described:

  • Model standing in a navy blue floral dress by the river
  • Horse calmly drinking water in the background
  • Smooth flowing water
  • Soft lighting to keep the editorial, magazine feel

I uploaded the best image to the video generator called Sora, pasted my detailed prompt, adjusted the aspect ratio to landscape, and clicked create. Meanwhile, I also used Midjourney’s new video features by selecting an image and choosing high motion for a dynamic effect.

After some processing, I had two videos one from ChatGPT tools and one from Midjourney. Both looked great but with slight differences. The ChatGPT video had better accuracy, while Midjourney’s was more natural and visually pleasing.

If you work with AI videos, you’ll notice they sometimes get physics or model positions wrong. For professional projects, I recommend investing in higher end tools like Clean that offer more precise control but come at a higher price. For those sticking to budgets, there are free, open-source models you can run locally, which I’ll demonstrate in future videos.

Tips for Using AI in Commercial Fashion Projects

  • Complexity matters: AI handles simple products like T-shirts or hoodies much better than detailed dresses. Accuracy for complex designs usually reaches around 90-95%. If you want 100% exact results, custom workflows with multiple AI models running locally are ideal.
  • Build custom workflows: Combining large language models (LLMs) with image generators and motion tools can get you the best results. But this requires some technical know-how and powerful hardware like GPUs.
  • Edit carefully: Download your AI-generated videos and use editing software (I use CapCut) to cut out weird clips and add finishing touches like music or color grading.
  • Balance cost vs quality: For freelancers or businesses, weigh your budget against the quality you need. Subscriptions to ChatGPT and Midjourney can pay for themselves through savings or income. Free tools work but may require more trial and error.
